G.Skill Ripjaws SR910 Real 7.1 Gaming Headset Soft

Driver support is provided by Xear and is dressed up with a G.Skill skin that matches the red and black theme nicely.  As expected there is little here that differs from what you have seen in other high-end Xear software suites.  The magic here is delivered by the hardware.

The software is divided into five major areas all with the same Right side panel for the equalizer and mode selection.  At the bottom of every screen is the toggle for the Environmental Noise Cancelling (ENC) though I don’t know why you would ever wan that off.  Main volume can be controlled via Main Volume Control, Mic-In Volume and Monitor Volume Control.  This may seem simple but I like having the most common controls always available.

First we have the Speaker settings tab.   This tab allows you to change the headphone mode from stereo to 7.1 and everything in-between.   There is even a toggle to force surround sound from a stereo source in the Surround Max function.

Next we have the Speaker shifter tab. This tab allows you to individually tune your speaker setup in surround mode.  I found the default sounded good out of the box with the right mode selected.

Next is the Flex Bass II tab.  This Tab is all about the bass tuning with the ability to increase the bass range and gain levels.  I played in here but found the boost a bit artificial on lower range hits.  These headphones really shine in the crisper mid bass range.  I wonder if adding a rumble effect for bass would make for a nice addition down the road.  I had just as much luck adding bass from the in-line control for games but did notice a bit fuller sound in 5.1 audio when listening to 5.1 enabled music tracks from Blueman Group.

The fourth tab is the SingFX tab.  You can mess with your voice pitch or fade.  To be honest, I never see the appeal of voice modification features but they are here.

Finally we have the MIC SING FX tab.  More voice modification, echo and Magic Voice effects if that’s your thing.
