    Introduction

Overclocking on LN2 (Liquid Nitrogen) is actually quite fun and becomes a delicate balance between temperature control and frequency.  Of course with that said this style of overclocking isn’t for everyone and is by far the least practical form of overclocking.  Extreme overclocking is often limited to benchmark competitions and experimentation due to limits in LN2 supply, condensation (water) and the gear required to overclock with cryogenic fluids.

On the Hardware Asylum Podcast I have mentioned “cost of entry” when it comes to extreme overclocking and in this build I’m going to explore exactly what is involved to overclock a 4-Way system on LN2.  Personally I’m a fan of NVIDIA so the build will feature team green from a popular US based manufacturer.

The above build and prices do not include Operating System or accessories.  In the event that more than one component is required the entry is duplicated.

There are two sections to this build.  The first is the basic computer and is using the X99 platform which is very well suited for 4-way SLI.  The EVGA GTX 980 Classified cards are extremely good and overclock quite well on both air and LN2.  In fact, I have an article where I show you how to overclock these cards on LN2 and end up pushing it to 2000Mhz.

The second table includes the supplies you will need to successfully overclock with LN2 including liquid tape and kneaded eraser, foam insulation and 2x dual input thermometers just to name a few.  Most of these supplies are for insulation against condensation to ensure things doing go up in a puff of smoke.

An interesting thing about this build is that if you ignore the LN2 aspect you have an extremely good high-end system.  It might be complexly overkill for gaming and desktop usage but happens to be almost perfect for any hardware enthusiast.
