    Conclusion

As system builders it is important to ensure that the system you are building will function as expected without compromise.  The 80Plus rating system applies mostly to power efficiency but can also give you a good indication that the advertised power rating can be trusted.

The DeepCool PQ1000M comes with an 80Plus Gold rating making it a very attractive product to those who appreciate a quality PSU.

The design is quite nice and features rounded corners with a very modest and understated set of graphics.  In a world where companies are trying to be over the top with excessive lighting and bold type and images the lack of details can sometimes be a welcome relief.

You won’t find any RGB lights with this PSU.  All of the cables are the flat ribbon variety and feature black connectors on both ends.  The only real hint of color on this product is the DeepCool logo graphic and the small power switch on the back.

Cooling is handled by a 120mm fan that can be manually switched between a semi fan-less mode or constantly running.  A Hybrid Mode switch can be found on the back of the PSU and enables the user to control how the fan will react to power loading.

In Hybrid Mode the fan will remain off until the PSU hits 30% loading.  At that point the fan will activate and continue to spin faster to match the overall loading condition.  Having the fan disabled lowers the noise ceiling to 0dBA at the expense of a little extra heat.

Overall, I find the DeepCool PQ1000M to be quite nice.  The hybrid fan controls are a welcome addition allowing the user to decide between lower temperatures or lower noise.  Given the 80Plug Gold rating and overall efficiency the PSU works well in both conditions.  Flat ribbon cables seem to be the norm when it comes to modern power supplies.  They look extremely good when used with a windowed chassis and while they do take a little longer to properly “route” they do tend to take up less space.

I would have preferred the CPU power cables to be split with a single cable supporting the 8pin plug with a second featuring 4+4 pin configuration.  I also find the inclusion of only three PCI Express power cables to be a little strange, especially considering that each cable only supports a single plug.  Strangely enough I do like the Hybrid cable featuring both SATA and Molex plugs which can save certain builds from installing too many power cables.

In terms of cost the DeepCool PQ1000M is on the spendy side but, does have a plenty of features to justify the cost, including a totally clean and graphic free installation option.
