    Conclusion

In this review we took a look at the new Patriot Viper Gaming VPN110 NVMe based M.2 SSD.  This drive is using the latest NVMe 1.3 standard and happens to be one of the fastest drives you can get from Viper Gaming supporting the PCI Express Gen3 interface.  The drive is available in three capacities including 512GB, 1TB and 2TB.

Overall advertised speed is respectable at 3300MB/s Reads and 3000MB/s writes and yet is a far cry from some of the fasted NVMe drives on the market.  These numbers are extremely respectable considering the Gen3 limitation making it a perfect drive for secondary storage in your gaming rig while offering you fast access to your archived files, maps and game saves while keeping the total purchase price down.

It should be noted that the Viper VPN1100 does come with an integrated heatsink designed to keep the drive cool under the heaviest of loads.  Unfortunately, the heatsink is glued to the drive with no indication that it can be reattached once removed.  This, in itself, can be a good thing, and a bad thing.

On the good side, this drive will work perfectly on lower end motherboards that do not provide a dedicated M.2 heatsink.  The attached cooler will ensure that the drive stays cool without impacting performance or fitment.

On the bad side, if you want to use this drive on systems with integrated M.2 cooling solutions you will either need to remove the included heatsink or not use the motherboard provided thermal solution.

Overall, the Viper VPN110 drive offered amazing out of box performance and while the posted numbers were slightly below the advertised maximums, I am humbled in knowing that overall performance never dropped over my testing session and offered well rounded results for a Gen3 drive
