As with most of the Hardware Asylum Podcast Extras we decided to take a candid look at two movie trailers.  First is the Fallout series on Amazon due to be released in April 2024 followed by the Borderlands Movie, due in theaters on August 2024.

Both films are based on extremely popular game franchises and if you go by the trailers, you can clearly see how one is staying true to the source material while the other has taken some extreme liberties where the only similarities could be in the names of the characters.

While it may be too soon to pass judgement there are plenty of instances where games (and books) had been converted into movies.  Sometimes the movie stays faithful to the story and does extremely well with a few minor changes to reinforce the storyline or deal with certain limitations.  More often than not, the movie studio, director and writers attempt to make a name for themselves (or a statement) and begin creating their own version.  Maybe they are not gamers and base the narrative on the box art or, they somehow think they are smarter than the game studio responsible for making the game popular to being with.

There are times this pays off, Sonic and Unchartered are good examples of this while there are hundreds that were simply a waste of time and money.
