Seasonic Shows Custom Power Supplies and Better 12VHPWR Cables at Computex 2026
Author: Dennis GarciaIntroduction
In all my years of visiting Computex, I have never stopped by to visit with Seasonic. I would see plenty of PSUs throughout my adventures and many were built by Seasonic so, I didn’t see the need. However, this year I decided to stop in and I am glad I did.
One thing that I always wondered is why we still use individual cables for our power supply wires. These are just an electrical connection and while having individual wires worked back in the AT days because there were only nine of them. ATX pushed that up to 20, then 20+4 and now 24+16 to accomidate a modern motherboard plus any graphics cards you are running.
That is a ton of wires which can make the system look messy.
Seasonic is working on a concept cable that will reduce the 12VHPWR cable down to just three. This new cable can more than triple the delivered energy while taking up less space and making the individual connection to the GPU more secure.
The cable is covered in soft silicon and is extremely flexible, maybe too flexible for most people but nothing a cable comb cannot fix.
To address the current concern around 12VHPWR current you will need to look for Seasonic PSUs marked with the OPTi badge. These PSUs have active digital monitoring of the 12VHPWR connector and will indicate the health of each cable using a multi color LED under the connector.
If the cable exceeds the threshold, the light will activate and the cable will be disabled. You system will still run but, the GPU connection will die, thus protecting the entire system and not damaging any current software on the system or in memory.
For AI enthusiasts Seasonic as 3200W versions of their PRIME series with a total of six 12VHPWR cable connections and plenty of power left over for running things like the base system and your phone charger.
The final item is an interesting concept where Seasonic will develop custom PSUs with high quality paint and custom cables. These may follow specific themes such as racing or sports and allows system builders to further customize their builds with a power supply they will be proud to show off.
