KMFDM recently came to town both Dennis and Darren took an evening off to check out the show.  The modern concert is a technological marvel that really shows how far music has progressed since the early days.  While some bands still enjoy a traditional four piece lineup there are many new electronica bands that consist solely of a laptop and mixing board.  The rest is premixed on MP3 and played to during the course of the evening.

At the KMFDM show there were two headlining bands.  Chant from Austin Texas and Legion Within from Seattle.  Both bands were as similar as they were different.  Chant consisted of two percussionists and relied on a premixed MP3 for the background audio.  Legion Within was a traditional band consisting of five members, one of which controlled a mixing board and digital audio streaming.

KMFDM was a mix of both band styles and epitomized the modern industrial electronica band with traditional band members playing, backed by vocals and premixed background tracks.  All the bands put on a great show and despite the smaller venue it was a good experience.

In this episode we learn that Darren is was quite the concert rat having seen KMFDM several times in the past and would actually travel to catch headliners such as Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) and Depeche Mode.   He goes on to tell a story about the first time he saw Trend Reznor in concert and how he was surprised at his showmanship and clearly indicated that he was witnessing something grand.
