We often talk about the emersion factor of gaming and how picking the right components can make or break your enjoyment.  The components in your gaming PC are critical for how the game is interpreted but, your interface to your gaming PC is often overlooked.  Interface is more than just a keyboard mouse and headphones and includes items such as your desk, the chair and even lighting in the room.

In this Podcast Extra the duo explore the items in a home office that people never upgrade and really should that doesn’t include specific PC components.

    The big three

    • Chair – this is your highest ROI and something like the Noblechairs Hero Black might be a good middle ground between comfort and gaming aesthetic
    • Desk - People will upgrade their GPU three times before they question whether their desk is the right height or material. If they're at a fixed-height desk, they're either hunching over or their chair is at the wrong angle
    • Monitor, more specific, Monitor Arms – The height of your screen will almost always dictate your seating position, for better or worse

    The nobody thinks about

    • Wrist Rest – If you type a lot you need to make sure your arms and hands are inline with each other to prevent damage. The wrist rest will help promote the correct position
    • Task Lighting – Overhead and window light is great but most gamers prefer a dark room to provide better contrast from their monitor screen. A task light helps to provide accent lighting that doesn’t interfere.
    • Anti Fatigue Mat – Mostly for a standing desk situation
    • Footrest – Once you seated correctly your legs will often dangle, a foot rest helps to support them and reduce strain.

    Silent stuff that adds up

    • Cable Management – This is mostly to keep your office tidy
    • Full size desk mat – Helps protect your desk and provides a cushion and traction for your accessories
    • Headset Stand – Nothing worse than leaving you headphones flat on your desk. Hang those spendy units up.

The meta-point: Most of these are things people can see the problem with but just keep normalizing. "My back is a little sore" for three years starts to feel like "that's just how my back is." The chair, desk, and monitor arm are the ones with the biggest compounding effect. The wrist rest, lighting, and footrest are the ones that quietly prevent the problems before they become chronic.
