Noblechairs Hero Black Gaming Chair Review

We talked about this chair on a recent episode of the Hardware Asylum Podcast and called out many of the features and configurations that you have available.  This was a much smaller part of the larger narrative indicating that many gamers ignore important parts of their gaming setup and end up “just dealing with it” instead of making their setup better.  The gaming chair was top of the list mostly because gamers and home office workers rarely think about their chair or even the desk because those items work good enough.  Many of them are and many could use an upgrade.

In this review we looked at the Noblechairs Hero Gaming Chair.  The review sample is in the High-Tech Faux Leather entirely in Black.  During the assembly process I noticed several things.  First is the exceptional build quality.  The material has a nice feel, stitching is extremely good and the components are exceptionally good looking and strong.  You’ll find all of the required hardware for assembly in the box either attached to the component or in a separate container.

The included screws are machined with a very nice finish and are very light indicating that they are likely aluminum and shouldn’t tarnish.  I find it interesting that all of the hardware is hidden from view, adding to the overall aesthetic.

During this review I failed to mention the two levers attached directly to the seat base.  These will either control the up and down movement of the gas swivel post or prevent the chair from rocking back.  Both are extremely important and simply push over the exposed posts. 

How is the Fitment?

Here is where my enthusiasm changes slightly.  When I sat in Noblechair samples at various trade shows, they were always messed up in some way and after 100’s or so people try them out you will have one arse who decides to make the chair either too loose or mis-align something just to spoil the experience for the next person.  Needless to say, I never took much stock in gaming chairs at trade shows.  However, in the lab I have a little more control and time to try everything out. 

I can easily say that, this chair is designed for two special types of people. 

First:  Folks between 5’-10” and 6’+ (read: tall people).  I say this because the lumbar controls are positioned high on the seat back and the lowest setting if you are around 5’-5” your feet will dangle above the floor.

Second: Folks of higher-than-average weight.  I am not an exceptionally large person and when sitting in the Hero I feel that my hips are not cradled at all.  The seat base is VERY flat and VERY firm.  When combined I am left with the feeling that I am no longer supported in my seating position with literally 6 inches of open space between me and the armrest pillar.  This is a common design trait among computer gaming chairs and something people either love or hate.

Overall, I am extremely impressed with the Noblechairs Hero for the exceptional build quality.  I find the ergonomic adjustments to be helpful and yet annoying.  For instance, I find the sliding armrests to be a distraction and really don’t like having to break out the Allen key to adjust the width of the arm pillars.  Thankfully, you will only need to do that once.

From a seating and comfort standpoint,  I personally fit quite well in the Hero though am left feeling that I am not laterally supported at all and the extremely firm padding is not comfortable at all.  Noblechairs does include two cloth wrapped pillows, they look nice but are too thick for normal use.  I suspect these are also a love or hate item and I am still glad they are included.
