    Conclusion

In this review we looked at the Patriot VIPER RGB DDR4 3200Mhz Dual Channel memory kit.  These are a new series of high-performance memory designed for modern DDR4 systems including the Intel 100/200/200 series chipsets and AMD 300 series motherboards.  Not only do the modules look good but are available in a multitude of speeds starting at 2400Mhz and extending up to 4133Mhz and available in two colors.

For the performance enthusiast you’ll want to pick the Black version as that line is available in speeds beyond 3200Mhz but are otherwise the same.  The Patriot VIPER RGB memory feature a full RGB LED lighting display and are compatible with all of the major motherboard lighting schemes and can be controlled either by the motherboard or by the VIPER RGB control software.  This gives the end user plenty of options when it comes to controlling the RGB LEDs independent of what motherboard is being used.

Memory capacities are currently locked at 16GB per kit and available in dual channel kits only.  Those wanting to run quad channel setups will have to purchase two memory kits and deal with the performance impacts associated with mixing and matching.  This shouldn’t matter for the majority of mainstream users as popular Ryzen and LGA 115x systems have dual channel memory controllers.

As our benchmarks indicated these 3200Mhz modules were a little slower than the reference sticks and in looking at the historical data it would seem that the new SSD had a bigger impact on performance than was expected.  AIDA64 and Sandra provided a memory only performance result whereas PCMark 10 and Sysmark included the entire system.  Despite what is shown here in the real world many people would be hard pressed to notice any difference especially considering that under the heatspreader and LED lights the Patriot modules are virtually identical.

Performance and style are what set the Patriot VIPER RGB memory modules apart.  I was able to easily overclock them to 3600Mhz without any voltage adjustments and only a minor decrease in memory timing.  The end result was an effortless overclock with some rather noticeable performance increases.
