    Patriot VIPER RGB Memory Overview

The heatspreader found on the Patriot VIPER RGB modules is a black anodized part that wraps around the module with some decorative cuts along the edges and where it makes contact with the light bar.

There is a very large VIPER logo attached to the center of each module with a highly polished chrome finish.  My photos show this logo with the protective plastic still installed so you’ll have to use your imagination.  Just a little, I promise.

Across the top of the module you’ll find a screened version of the VIPER logo text that is clearly visible with and without the lights being activated.

Module height has always been a concern when it comes to system builds since heatsink manufactures often build their designs based on JEDEC module standards.  This is great when using vanilla memory modules but, once you switch to performance memory your cooling method can becomes a concern.

In terms of overall height the module measures a little over 1.75 inches tall which appears to be one of the new accepted standard when it comes to memory module height.  Given that most high-end builds have switched to AIO or DIY watercooling there is less risk involved when it comes to heatsink clearance however, that is something builders need to consider when planning out their systems.

    VIPER Software

Not everyone has a RGB enabled motherboard and for those users Patriot offers their VIPER RGB Control software.  This lightweight application will communicate with the memory modules to control the RGB LED lighting effects and allows a fair amount of customization.  The software is not all inclusive but does give the end user some control over what their memory modules are doing and can be used in conjunction with motherboard based RGB controls or on its own.
