  • ASUS ROG Ally X Review @ TechPowerUp

TechPowerUp reviewed the ASUS ROG Ally X as a meaningful upgrade over the original Ally, with design improvements, better internals, and longer battery life. It features AMD’s Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor paired with 24 GB of LPDDR5X memory and a faster 1 TB SSD, giving it solid performance for AAA and indie titles alike. The 7-inch 1080p 120 Hz display delivers smooth visuals, while the larger 80 Wh battery nearly doubles runtime compared to the first model. Ergonomic refinements, such as rounded grips and improved button placement, make the device more comfortable for extended gaming sessions.

The ASUS ROG Ally X has been around for a year now. While we are late to the party, we decided to put it through our testing suite and see whether it's still the best Windows PC handheld around.

The review also noted some drawbacks. While performance is strong, Windows 11 continues to pose usability challenges in a handheld form factor, with occasional app quirks and a less intuitive interface compared to Linux-based systems like SteamOS. Fan noise can also become noticeable under load, and the Ally X is priced higher than its predecessor, which may limit its appeal for some buyers. Still, with its blend of power, portability, and upgraded design, the ROG Ally X stands out as one of the most capable handheld gaming PCs currently available.

  • Patriot Viper Elite 5 RGB DDR5-7000 32 GB CL38 Review @ TechPowerUp

TechPowerUp evaluated the Patriot Viper Elite 5 DDR5-7000 as a strong contender in the budget-oriented segment of high-speed DDR5. Offering speeds up to 7000 MT/s, the kit is well-suited for Intel platforms, especially 13th and 14th Generation CPUs, where 7200 MT/s often represents a sweet spot. It includes fallback XMP profiles at 6800 and 6600 MT/s for broader compatibility, though Intel 12th Generation systems may still require extra tweaking. On the AMD side, performance is more limited due to memory controller ratios beyond 6000 MT/s, making this kit less ideal for Ryzen systems. While it lacks EXPO profiles and isn’t designed for heavy overclocking, the kit provides stability, broad usability, and attractive RGB lighting at a competitive price point.

Patriot has expanded the Viper lineup with a new series under the Elite brand. Aimed at budget-conscious builders, this 32 GB DDR5-7000 kit is designed for Intel users and includes three XMP profiles to maximize compatibility. Join us as we test this memory and see how it compares to the competition!

The review also noted the trade-offs that come with affordability. Looser timings and higher voltage requirements mean it doesn’t achieve top-tier benchmark results, and overclocking potential is modest compared to Patriot’s higher-end Venom or Xtreme series. That said, the impact on real-world gaming is minimal, especially for players who focus on visuals rather than esports-level frame rates. For budget-conscious builders, the money saved with this kit could be better invested in a stronger GPU or CPU, ultimately improving overall system performance. TechPowerUp concluded that the Viper Elite 5 RGB DDR5-7000 delivers a solid balance of speed, aesthetics, and affordability, making it a worthwhile choice for gamers and mainstream users looking to upgrade without overspending.

  • Gigabyte B850 Eagle WiFi7 Ice Motherboard Review @ TechPowerUp

TechPowerUp described the Gigabyte B850 Eagle WiFi7 Ice as a budget-friendly sub-$200 AM5 motherboard that balances affordability with a surprising degree of future-proofing. It includes PCIe Gen5 support for both GPU and M.2 storage, Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, 2.5 Gb Ethernet, and an abundance of USB ports. The standout feature is its extensive white color scheme, which sets it apart visually from many competitors in the same price range. While the limited USB-C speed and lack of USB4 may be drawbacks for users who rely on fast external storage, most mainstream builds will find its connectivity sufficient. For mid-range systems, the overall package hits the right notes in terms of value and design.

If you want a matching motherboard for a white PC build, it doesn’t get much better than Gigabyte’s Ice series. Coming in at under $200, the B850 Eagle WiFi7 Ice is reasonably priced, but will the small heatsinks let it down, and has Gigabyte cut any other corners?

The review also highlighted some limitations. VRM cooling is less robust compared to similarly priced boards from ASRock, MSI, and even Gigabyte’s own B650 series, making it unsuitable for heavy multithreaded workloads or power-hungry CPUs. PCIe Gen5 SSDs also run hot and may throttle under sustained loads. Competing boards often offer stronger M.2 cooling, better audio codecs, or faster USB options at similar price points. Even so, for builders seeking an affordable motherboard that delivers modern standards like Wi-Fi 7 and PCIe Gen5 while sporting a cohesive white aesthetic, the B850 Eagle WiFi7 Ice remains an appealing option for mid-range systems, as long as its thermal and feature compromises are understood.

  • CRYORIG C5 cu CPU Air Cooler Review @ TechPowerUp

TechPowerUp reviewed the Cryorig C5 Cu as a compact but capable low-profile air cooler designed for small form factor builds. It delivers solid cooling performance for its size, rated for up to 180 watts TDP, and handled both AMD and Intel platforms well in testing. On AMD systems, it managed workloads up to 176 watts, and on Intel, it even pushed beyond its rated specs, reaching over 216 watts in some scenarios. The cooler’s vapor chamber base, full copper construction, and ARGB lighting contribute to both its performance and premium look, while the wide PWM range allows users to balance cooling performance and noise levels effectively.

The CRYORIG C5 Cu features an innovative design with its vapor chamber base, providing dependable performance in a truly compact form factor, even featuring ARGB. For small form factor enthusiasts aiming to maximize every inch of space, it has the potential to be a standout solution.

However, the review pointed out a few caveats. The fan noise becomes noticeable, with a droning tone at higher speeds, and while build quality is solid, the C5 Cu comes at a premium price with only a two-year warranty, which feels short for an air cooler in this range. It also performs best in open or well-ventilated setups, meaning tight enclosures or poor airflow environments can limit its potential. Overall, TechPowerUp concluded that the Cryorig C5 Cu is an excellent choice for small form factor builds needing reliable cooling in a compact footprint, as long as users pair it with hardware that aligns with its realistic thermal capabilities.

One of my favorite keyboards that I've used over the past year or so has been the MelGeek MADE68 Pro. It was one of the first magnetic switch rapid trigger keyboards that I used and I absolutely loved the style of the keyboard too! Well Melgeek is back with the MADE68 Air, which is a low-profile version of the keyboard. While the design and colorway is very much the same we now have low-profile magnetic switches as well as low-profile keycaps. If you are a fan of low-profile keyboards this could be the perfect keyboard for you! Read on as we take a look!

However, the review found the typing experience less enjoyable for everyday use. The low-profile keycaps were not as comfortable for prolonged typing sessions, and the board felt somewhat hollow, lacking the satisfying feel and sound profile of other high-end keyboards. While performance and responsiveness were excellent during gaming, the overall typing experience did not match the expectations set by its advanced technology. Ultimately, the MADE68 Air is a strong choice for gamers seeking cutting-edge performance, but less ideal for those prioritizing typing comfort or acoustic refinement.
