In one of the latest PC World articles they announced the launch of a new YTX motherboard form factor and there is already a board on the market to take advantage. The Maxsun MS-Terminator H770 YTX D5 WiFi comes equipped with a number of features including the new YTX form factor combined with backside connectivity and the frightenedly old Intel H770 chipset supporting LGA 1700 12th/13th/14th generation core processors.
While on the surface this looks like an innovative take on a new motherboard design but, the devil is in the details and these tell us that this board is nothing more than a single slot version of your standard, run-of-the-mill ATX motherboard which was basically cut off after the middle set of mounting screws. This makes the height of the motherboard your standard Mini ITX but the width standard ATX.
We suspect this was a special design for a single customer in China and the company decided to show them off and get some free press out of it.
Later in this episode the duo takes a deep dive into what defines a motherboard form factor and why certain designs were chosen for different purposes. They also discuss the reverse connector movement. While these boards are making serious waves in the enthusiast community they will eventually be the death of the case maker due to how power sockets don’t follow any standard and by moving them around you end up creating more problems than solutions.
