December episodes of the Hardware Asylum podcast have always been a little hit or miss. Sometimes we talk about holiday games while other times we might talk about old games or even games that you might want to consider playing. Well, this year is a little different in that we dive into the catalog of Darren and what he has been playing lately.
Not surprising we start out the episode talking about Borderlands 6 and contrast that with previous entries into the series and some of the issues associated with cross platform play from actual cheating to the advantages that most console players have when playing with PC players. An 8x advantage in autoaim seems to be the ultimate cheatcode and when you combine that with a trainer to 11x seems to be no different than adding an artificial handicap just because you are scared someone might actually beat you.
The next game on the list is Borderlands 4. As long time listeners will know both Dennis and Darren have played plenty of BL2 and the content made of up a good portion of the podcast content when it was relevant. Dennis felt that Borderlands 3 made changes for the sake of making them instead of adding more to the storyline. This is a classic problem when designers disagree on how things should be done and seems to be the plague of the sequel that impacts everything from games to movies and even cars.
Borderlands 4 is a little different in that it combines many of the good aspects from Borderlands 2 with the variability of Borderlands 3. According to Darren there are still plenty of issues but, the story seems to be flushed out and is worthy of your holiday time and money.
