As video game enthusiasts it is rather simple to say we enjoy playing games and we all have that type of game we like playing from RTS to FPS and most anything in between. However, the real question is how do you know if you are going to want a game?
Before the widespread adoption of the Internet most games sold based on magazine advertisements or, if the game was tied to a movie franchise or sporting event you would get sales on the name alone. This often led to a rather large rift between people who enjoyed the game vs gamers who ultimately shelved the game as a waste of money. (Yes, back then people would own up to their mistakes instead of going all Karen and trying to get their money back, this is how you learn)
In the modern world of gaming there is several stages of hype around a game release. You have hype when the game is a sequel to a popular franchise, you have hype around game reviewers giving their stamp of approval and you have hype from the game studio saying their game will be the best thing since sliced bread and they have the knife to prove it.
But what if they are wrong?
In this episode we explore a very good list called the “AAA Hall of Shame – The 10 Biggest Disasters in Gaming History”.
This list is not inclusive of every game failure out there and actually has some successful games that were just released too early. Seems having an easy way to issue updates has allowed game developers to shortcut the QA process in an attempt to save some development budget and simply wait for gamers to complain, for 6+ years.
