Beyerdynamic DT 1770 Pro Testing and Conclusion

For testing the Beyerdynamic DT 1770 Pro I ran though my normal list of FLAC music to get a baseline on frequency response and comparison against some of my other audio headsets including my Wife’s Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pros.  I have been using the DT 1770 headphones as my daily drivers for about a week with a mixed listening schedule that included gaming and a battery of headphone test tracks.

We also used the DT1770 headset for our most recent podcast. If you want to hear more about the rest of our changes to the Hardware Asylum podcast studio. Check out the November Podcast here!

For audio testing the Beyerdynamic DT 1770 Pro was hooked directly to my PC via the Creative Sound Blaster X5. I ran though my normal list of FLAC music to get a baseline on frequency response and comparison against some of my other headsets including the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pros. We have also recorded three podcasts (so far) but most of the testing was done over a week of gaming split between Battlefield 2042 and Fortnite.

Sound levels are exceptional with a wide, immersive soundstage that makes me feel like I can close my eyes and point to each instrument. Bass is also crisp and nuanced although it never felt bass heavy.   Sound quality they are definitely giving my Sennheiser HD6xx headset a run for their money.

Comparing the two the Beyerdynamic headsets is difficult. The DT 1770 Pro MKII is ideal for critical listening, mixing, and those who prioritize accuracy and detail. The DT 770 Pro is a more engaging and fun-sounding option, perfect for enjoying music with a bit more excitement and impact at a lower budget.

I also appreciated the level of comfort over long sessions. Fit was tight without being uncomfortable and the new fontanelle recess is a gamechanger for long gaming sessions. If only they came with a mic!

    Conclusion

The DT 1770 Pro MK2 represents a significant upgrade over both my Sennheiser Daily Drivers and my DT 770 Pro. The new TESLA.45-drivers delivers substantial improvements in clarity, detail, and overall sound quality. The redesigned MK2 shows the DT 1770 Pro remains a top-tier choice for critical listening and professional audio applications.

While I would be hard pressed to find fault with the DT 1770 Pro MK2, some may prefer a warmer, less clinical delivery. Beyerdynamic markets the DT 1770 Pro MK2 as an easier to drive (30 ohm) studio headset and they definitely over achieve! Now if only they had a microphone for gaming!
