    Thermaltake Toughram XG Memory Overview

Ever since the introduction of the heatspreader it has become one of the most recognizable selling points of any memory module.  And, while heatspreaders do very little to increase performance their design can often make or break the success of the module on the open market.

Thermaltake has revised their heatspreader design to feature a mirrored middle section flanked by black and grey aluminum panels.  There are a total of three metal pieces on each module, the main heatspreaders overlap across the top to create an X near the middle to separate the RGB lighting bars.

The middle section with the mirrored bit is at module height and completely independent of the other two panels.

While the overall heatspreader design is extremely decorative and offers a unique distribution of RGB lighting it does give the module an extremely “cheap” feel due to the thin metal used which is only supported by thermal pads.

RGB lights are located in the normal location across the top of the module and are divided up into three visual lighting zones.

When it comes to RGB lighting the Toughram XG modules are some of the best.  The lights are bright and offer rich color rendering that can rival other modules on the market.  These lights are also compatible with Addressable RGB systems found on most motherboards.
