SilverStone FLP02 Retro Inspired Case Review
Author: Dennis GarciaCase Layout and Features
The SIlverStone FLP02 can be best described as a standard tower chassis with a decorative front bezel that blends nicely with the metal side panels and top cover. What I find interesting is the lack of any tempered glass, acrylic panels or windows which takes us back to the early days and helps sell the retro feel.
Turning the case around shows the modern roots to the FLP02 design with a large 120mm exhaust fan at the top, ample venting, bottom mounted PSU and support for dual slot vertical GPUs.
One of the iconic features if this case is how the front panel connections are handled. At the top of the case a small door will flip down exposing three USB ports and combined audio jack for headphones and microphone,
Below that is the Retro PC panel with a red momentary rocker switch to power on the system along with a large reset button and turbo button. Much like on actual retro cases, the turbo switch will change the digit display though, instead of altering the clock speed the FLP02 will adjust the fan speeds up to 100%.
The lock is operable with an included key and will disable the button controls from accidental power and reset presses. I really like this feature and it helps sell the overall retro feel of the FLP02
This last feature is a bit controversial IMO. The bay covers are designed to resemble 5.25” floppy drives but are not modeled very well. Honestly, this isn’t a huge deal but, for people that know it can be a trigger point.
What is really cool is how they work. By unlocking the “drive” you release an internal clip so the panel can be removed. This is super unique though, visually repetitive.
