    Conclusion

When I was introduced to this case at Computex I was immediately impressed with the overall concept and design.  The bezel and front control panel captured the essence of computers from the mid to late 90’s, the beige color is spot on and having functional external drive bays really sold the overall package.

What I didn’t know at the time is that the SilverStone FLP02 is actually a factory casemod.  We are all familiar with how certain companies create multiple product SKUs by offering a different bezel design.  Case one is a high-airflow design while Case two is a silent design because the fans are covered.  If you remove the bezels, the underlying chassis is exactly the same.

Something similar was done to create the FLP02.  The base chassis is the SETA D1 and has been on the market for a couple years.  The case offers a variety of features including four external 5.25” drive bays, internal 3.5” drive bays, modern cooling support and is a case you can use when versatility is needed in your system builds that you cannot find with many modern case designs.

Overall, I am really impressed with the FLP02, the design is extremely unique and while some may shudder at the through of bringing the “beige box” back from the dead it is being done the right way.  The case has all of the features of a modern PC case while removing the nightmare ones associated with vintage cases from the 90’s.  Cooling has been addressed with in integrated fan controller with dual 120mm fans up front a single 120/140mm exhaust fan out back and support for up to 360mm radiators up top.  These things combined with external drive bays and you have the perfect combo of new and old that a surprisingly high number of people have been demanding.

I am also impressed that the FLP02 is devoid of tempered glass and ARGB lights.  While this might seem like table stakes to most system builders it is quite the opposite for the Retro PC enthusiast and is where I feel the FLP02 really shines.  For instance, solid metal panels are a perfect canvas for cutting your own side windows while the lack or ARGB gives you the option to install LED strips or even cold cathode tubes allowing you options to build a proper retro build or frame your modern watercooled PC with some retro style.
