SilverStone FLP02 Retro Inspired Case Review
Author: Dennis GarciaRetro PC System Install
It seemed fitting that a Retro PC inspired computer case needs to feature a proper retro build and for this I selected some components from the Hardware Asylum Vault. Keep in mind these components are not period correct but, if you want to flame me in the comments, feel free.
Tyan Tiger 100 S1832D Dual Pentium Motherboard
Hercules 3D Prophet III Ti 500 (GeForce 3)
Sound Blaster Audigy 2
LG DVD
Teac FD FD-55GFR 5.25” Floppy Drive
Given that this build is ATX every component installed as you would expect. I started with the drives and to provide access for radiators and fans the top external drive bay needed to be wider than usual.
To take up the space you need to install this tiny metal bracket and line it up with the holes at the top of the case. Screw access is limited so be sure to grab your magnetic screwdriver and be prepared to flip the chassis over.
I felt compelled to install a 5.25” floppy drive given the bay cover designs. As you can see from the photos the SilverStone design is “almost” there but, not quite.
The final shots are of the finished build. I still have some things to hook up but for retro hardware in a modern chassis I am really impressed with how easy everything went together. Of course, modern hardware is no different with plenty of access for cable routing and GPU support built in.
Just to provide some context, here is the SilverStone SETA D1, the case that was used to build the SilverStone FLP02 hosting a full Ryzen build with RTX 5080. This could easily be accomplished in the FLP02 providing the basis for a proper modern sleeper with plenty of additional modding opportunities.
